The first recorded Licensee of the White Hart,
Rocklands All Saints, was Elizabeth Leader, in 1789. It has changed hands many
times since then and Licencees have included a shepherd, pork butcher, farmers
and a shoe maker. It was valued on 25th July 1889 at £670.00,
including 5 acres of land. The pub was rebuilt in 1925. In March 2003 it was
threatened with closure and planning permission was sought to change it into a
private dwelling. Permission was refused in May 2003. The current owners (coincidence
with the surnames?!) Binz & Sally-Ann Leeder took over the running of the
pub in March 2006, but the doors were closed in 2010 and again planning
permission was sought and refused to turn the pub into a private dwelling.
The White Hart has been standing unused for a long
while now. Once the hub of the village, it would be a shame to let this be
turned into something else. It is the intention of local people to sell shares
to get the pub up and running again.
The Rocklands White Hart Community Association has
been formed with a view to raising enough local support and funds to purchase
the pub and to return it to the focal point of the village and once again be a
thriving village pub serving the local and neigbouring communities.
